Young Adulthood

                                  Young Adulthood

This is a time when people are often contemplating or actively transitioning out of their childhood homes and developing their identities unique from their role within the family. At the same time, sexual tensions and identities are being explored.

Many individuals will move away from home, while other will remain at home. Both of these choices carry with them their own set of tensions and challenges, which can often leave a person feeling lonely and overwhelmed. After old age, research has demonstrated the young adult phase is the second most common life stage in which people report intense experiences of loneliness.

This is because there are so many changes and unknown possibilities arising in various aspects of a person's life. People are exploring their values, beliefs and motivations at this stage in their lives. For some, leaving school or dismissal from a job may force a transition for which they are unprepared. For others, this may be a time when a lifelong vocation of choice no longer seems to be an option. It can be a very exciting time, filled with opportunities. Choosing the opportunity which is best is often overwhelming.

It is not uncommon for various mental health issues (e.g., anxiety, eating disorders, substance abuse, bipolar disorder, etc.) to emerge at this age.

Heather can help you work through your experiences and thoughts to assist you to achieve a sense of well-being and direction, which works for you.
